Charlottesville Day of Dance, a festival

Charlottesville Day of Dance is the first annual gathering of the most comprehensive spread of the city's dance offerings.  Be it dance fitness, social dance, Latin, ballroom, ballet, modern, Irish step, contra, Tahitian, bellydance or aerial, our festival is bringing them all downtown to the pedestrian mall for one fully saturated day celebrating the art of movement.

Beginning at noon, this free family-friendly event has a packed schedule for our outdoor stage on 5th and Main displaying some of the best and most engaging dance in the region.   Our dance information area with tables of Charlottesville's myriad dance classes, workshops, summer camps and performances are available for discovery and interaction with the dancers themselves, the teachers and professors.

A workshop and demo area will be holding participatory teasers and classes of some of our troupes and studios.  Charlottesville Ballet will work with children to create their own piece, while Linda Revis will have you moving and exploring with Nia and BodyGroove; Fire in the Belly will show your hips how to move in ways you never before suspected, and Phoenix Dance Studio will give you a chance at testing your upper body strength at the aerial arts, and so much more.

Our indoor stage will host a smattering of dance performances throughout the day in a black box setting away from festival ambiance.

Our festival will have a slew of family fun, as well -- face painting, henna, a massage tent and children's games and activities. Come out, sign your family up for a summer dance class, try a couple of new movements yourself, and find something new you never knew existed in Charlottesville.

As our daytime portion comes to a close at 6 p.m. with the information fair and workshops winding down, our outdoor stage will continue in full force presenting acts ideally set against the backdrop of a setting sun.

Our night section begins as the sun disappears, our stage being handed over to LED dancers and a DJ for the glorious conclusion to our festival with an outdoor dance party, since all forms of dance are still dance, after all.

Can you bear to miss this?

Our indoor stage is being generously hosted by Chroma, a magnificent art gallery and studio at 418 E. Main on the pedestrian mall right next to our festival. Their current main gallery artist David Garrett's work in his show "Elements" is marvelously indicative of movement and more than worthy of your study.
